How many members of your family are not here due to abortion?
The Facts
The following statistics are taken from released info from pro abortion organizations such as The Alan Guttmacher Institute (www.agi-usa.org)
and Planned Parenthood’s Family Planning Perspectives.
In the United States there are over 1 million abortions per year.
On average there are 3,700 abortions per day in the U.S. alone.
52% of women obtaining abortions in the U.S. are younger than 25: Women aged 20-24 obtain 32% of all abortions; Teenagers obtain 20% and girls under 15 account for 1.2%.
While white women obtain 60% of all abortions, their abortion rate is well below that of minority women. Black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion, and Hispanic women are roughly 2 times as likely.\
64.4% of all abortions are performed on never-married women; Married women account for 18.4% of all abortions and divorced women obtain 9.4%.
1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).
52% of all abortions occur before the 9th week of pregnancy, 25% happen between the 9th & 10th week, 12% happen between the 11th and 12th week, 6% happen between the 13th & 15th week, 4% happen between the 16th & 20th week, and 1% of all abortions (16,450/yr.) happen after the 20th week of pregnancy.
An estimated 43% of all women will have at least 1 abortion by the time they are 45 years old. 47% of all abortions are performed on women who have had at least one previous abortion.
The Views
Pro-Life:
pro-life (prō-līf‘)
adj.
Advocating full legal protection of human embryos or fetuses, especially by opposing legalized abortion.
prolifer pro-lif’er n.
Pro-life individuals generally believe that human life should be valued either from fertilization or implantation until natural death. The contemporary pro-life movement is typically, but not exclusively, associated with Christian morality (especially in the United States), and has influenced certain strains of bioethical utilitarianism. From that viewpoint, any action which destroys an embryo or fetus kills a human being. Any deliberate destruction of human life is considered ethically or morally wrong. Such an act is not considered to be mitigated by any benefits to others through scientific advancement or, in the case of abortion, by ending the hardship of a woman with an unwanted or dangerous pregnancy, as such benefits come at the expense of the life of what they consider a person. In some cases, this belief extends to opposing abortion of fetuses that would almost certainly be unviable, such as anencephalitic fetuses. Pro-lifers are frequently (but not always) in opposition to certain forms of birth control, particularly hormonal contraception such as ECP’s, which may prevent the implantation of an embryo. Because pro-life advocates largely believe that personhood begins at conception, they often regard these forms of birth control as abortifacients. The Catholic Church recognizes this view, but the possibility that hormonal contraception has post-fertilization effects is currently disputed within the scientific community.
Pro-Choice:
Pro-choice (prō-chois‘)
adj.
Favoring or supporting the legal right of women and girls to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy to term.
Pro-choicer pro-choic’er n.
Pro-choice advocates emphasize their beliefs that having a child is a personal choice about their own body and personal health, and that both parents’ and children’s lives are better when the government allows abortions to women, thus preventing women from going to desperate lengths to achieve illegal abortion, while simultaneously assuring that a larger percentage of the children born are wanted by their parents.
More broadly, pro-choice advocates frame their beliefs in terms of “individual liberty,” “reproductive freedom,” and “reproductive rights.” The first of these terms was widely used to describe many of the political movements of the 19th and 20th centuries (such as in the abolition of slavery in Europe and the United States, and in the spread of popular democracy), whereas the latter terms derive from changing perspectives on sexual freedom and bodily integrity.
Pro-choice individuals often do not consider themselves “pro-abortion” because they consider abortion an issue of bodily autonomy, and find forced abortion as legally indefensible as the outlawing of abortion. Indeed, some who are pro-choice consider themselves opposed to some or all abortions on a moral basis, but believe that abortion bans imperil women’s health. Some argue that while they would not advocate an individual case of abortion, a general right to abortion is a principle that must be defended in a liberal democracy. Others have a practical acceptance of abortion, arguing that abortions would happen in any case but that legal abortion under medically controlled conditions is preferable to illegal back-alley abortion without proper medical supervision.
Many pro-choice campaigners also argue that pro-life policies would deny women access to comprehensive sex education and contraception, thus increasing, not decreasing, demand for abortion. Proponents of this argument point to cases of areas with limited sex education and contraceptive access that have high abortion rates, either legal, illegal or de facto exported (i.e., where a high proportion of abortions from a state occur outside that state in another country with a more liberal abortion regime). The Irish women who visit the United Kingdom for abortions are one example, as were the Belgian women who travelled to France (before Belgium liberalised its own laws). As with many issues involving political framing, these claims are controversial.
The Point
We, yes we speaking of mankind, have gotten lax in our knowledge of the world we live in. Abortion accounts for millions of deaths a year. Yet we talk about it as if it were a simple Television sitcom. Then we develop uninformed opinions about topics such as abortion and judge one another for theirs. We need to at least educate ourselves to the reality of the situation before taking a stance. Don’t be left wing/Right wing. Don’t be limited by the current curriculum. And don’t let a box made of thoughts prevent you from expanding. I bring you no opinions, I only attempt to give you an objective look at society and how in the new millennium we have become 21st century slaves. Not minorities or majorities but all of us. WAKE UP!!! May the Lord watch over us and keep us in his will. This is my prayer, for all those who wish to join in please do. The prayers of the saints availeth much.
